The group went by charter bus to Atlanta and made stops at colleges like Morehouse, Spelman, and Georgia State University. They visited historic sites such as the gravesite of Dr. Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King and Ebenezer Baptist Church where Dr. King was baptized. They also enjoyed recreational time at the Atlanta Zoo and the Georgia Aquarium.
Social Studies teacher Jasmine Graves said the trip showed the scholars a new view of history and the importance of the Civil Rights Movement. “The King Center opened our scholars’ eyes to the sacrifices others have made so that they could have choices,” she said.
